Hotel & Arrival

Your stay has been booked and paid for four nights from Monday, May 4th to Friday, May 8th at the Meliá Madrid Serrano hotel. It is located at Calle de Claudio Coello, 139 in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid, across the street from the U.S. Embassy, and a 10min walk from the U.S.-Spain Fulbright Commission.

The reservation includes breakfast at the hotel.

The easiest way to arrive to the hotel would be to catch a taxi from the airport. There are designated taxi lines once you exit the terminal. There is a flat 33€ fee for taxis from the airport to anywhere in the city of Madrid. A taxi from the airport to the hotel is about a 20 min. drive.

We have now reserved each room under each participants name. If you would like to stay at the same hotel before or after the program, you will have to get in touch with the hotel directly by emailing hotels.reservations@melia.com to arrange and pay for any additional nights. Below are your reservation numbers to help with this and with check-in.

Madrid

If you find yourself in Madrid outside of the planned program days or with some free time, here is some information we hope you find useful.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Public Transit in Madrid is comprehensive, clean, and very safe. There are 12 Metro lines and tons of bus routes in Madrid that are easy to follow using Apple Maps or Google Maps. You can search which lines to take by putting in your destination’s address and selecting public transport.

To pay for the Metro, go to any station and use a red kiosk to purchase a 10 journey pass metro card. You can continue to refill your trips throughout the week using the same physical card. To refill, put the card in the machine and follow the steps after selecting English.

You can use this same metro card to pay for the bus as well. However, if you don’t have a card you can purchase a one-way ticket with the bus driver, or just tap your credit card on the payment machine by the bus door.

TAXI/CAR-SHARING

Taxi- You can either go to a taxi stop or hail a cab on the street that has a green light on top.

Uber- If you already have the Uber app, and already have an account, you can use the same account to get around the city.

Other car-sharing companies that operate in Madrid include: Cabify and Bolt.
