U.S. Scholar Awards. For Academic Year 2021-2022

​Grants for U.S. Senior Lecturers, Senior Postdoctoral Researchers, and Junior Postdoctoral Researchers.

Objectives ​Contribute significantly to advanced studies of mutual interest to the U.S. and Spain by teaching, preferably at the graduate level; conduct research and/or collaborate with colleagues at Spanish academic and research institutions; or a combination of both.

Activities may include presenting lectures, seminars, and/or workshops, as arranged by host institutions or the U.S.-Spain Fulbright Commission.

Disciplines All disciplines will be considered.

Requirements

    Candidates with dual U.S./Spain citizenship, or candidates residing in Spain at the time of application or anytime thereafter, are not eligible for the Fulbright Program to Spain.

Invitation letter required or recommended for most awards (see CIES webpage), indicating the name and position of the academic adviser with whom the scholar will collaborate, and specifying the teaching program and work load or indicating the availability of research resources.

For the Flex grant, an invitation letter is required and must indicate:
  • The availability of research resources
  • The willingness and need to collaborate on a multi-year basis in order to achieve successful completion of project
  • The name and position of the academic adviser with whom the scholar will collaborate.
Grant Duration All Disciplines Senior Research and Lecturing Award: ​three and a half months.

Flex Senior Research award: total grant length of four to six months, with one annual stay of two to three months over a maximum period of two years.

Co-sponsored awards: as indicated in each award description.

Junior Research: five to nine months.
Grant Period Grants must begin between September 2021 and May 2022.
Grant Benefits Senior Research & Lecturing
  • Base stipend: 3,000 € per month (approximately $3,270)
  • Travel: ​1,285 € (approximately $1,400)
  • Dependent travel: 735€ (approximately $800) per person, for up to a maximum of two legal family members who accompany the grantee for at least 80% of the award period.
  • Dependent monthy allowance: 150 € (approximately $165) per person, for up to a maximum of two legal family members who accompany the grantee for at least 80% of the award period.
  • Health benefits for grantee only.

Junior Research

  • Base stipend: 2,000 € (approximately $2,180) per month
  • Travel: ​1,285 € (approximately $1,400)
  • Dependent travel: 735€ (approximately $800) per person, for up to a maximum of two legal family members who accompany the grantee for at least 80% of the award period.
  • Dependent monthy allowance: 150 € (approximately $165) per person, for up to a maximum of two legal family members who accompany the grantee for at least 80% of the award period.
  • Health benefits for grantee only.
Calendarios proceso de selección ​
Observations The Fulbright Commission promotes academic and professional affiliations with public and private institutions throughout the country.

Host institutions are encouraged to note direct and in-kind contributions (such as facilities) in the letter of invitation. These contributions help maximize the benefits provided by the Fulbright Program and can serve as a sign of the host institution’s commitment to the particular project.
