Academics and Professionals: U.S. Senior Specialists invited by Spanish higher education institutions through the Commission.

Objectives ​Facilitate the collaboration between an American specialist and one or more Spanish institutions for faculty and teacher training, needs assessments and program/curriculum evaluations, development of academic curriculum or educational materials, and/or consultations on faculty development. Presentations, guest lectures, and minor research projects are encouraged as supplemental activities.

The program goal is to build capacity in a variety of academic fields and to promote long-term collaborative relationships between U.S. and Spain higher education institutions through academic projects.
Deadline for submission of applications From 23-May-2016 to 24-June-2016
Disciplines Program priority areas include refugee and migration issues, countering violent extremism, climate change and energy, entrepreneurship, massive open online course (MOOC) administration, public administration, conservation, women’s issues, and STEM education.  Project requests for STEM fields should include the teaching and/or administration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, including biology, chemistry, physics, computer science and technology, engineering, and mathematics education.

Eligible fields include: agriculture, American (U.S.) studies, anthropology, archaeology, biology, business administration, chemistry, communications and journalism, economics, education, engineering, environmental science, information technology, law, library science, mathematics, peace and conflict resolution studies, physics, political science, public/global health, social work, sociology, and urban planning. Posts and Commissions should visit the program website if they are interested in proposing an FSP project in other academic fields.

The use of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Courseware (OCW) in proposals submitted under the field of education and/or disciplinary-field specializations such as interdisciplinary learning and innovative teaching methods in STEM education is encouraged.

Projects in the field of TEFL are no longer supported,


Requirements Open to ​qualified U.S. scholars and professionals in select disciplines. Candidates must have been approved to the Fulbright Specialist Roster.
The host institution can consult the program’s institutional requirements and must send the application to the Commission for approval of the project. If the Spanish institution’s request is a named request, the person in question must apply to CIES to be approved for the roster of candidates:

Candidates with dual U.S./Spain citizenship are not eligible to apply.

Grant Duration From ​2 to 6 weeks
Grant Period October 2016- September 2017
Grant Benefits ​The Fulbright Program will cover transatlantic transportation and provide a $200 daily fee for the approved working days in Spain. The host institution will be responsible for room and board in Spain and local transportation within the country if necessary.
Calendarios proceso de selección ​Selection of projects will be finalized during the first half of July, 2016. Selection results will be communicated by e-mail to all Spanish institutions that have submitted an application.
Observations There are up to five slots available for AY 2016-2017.
